Federal REAL ID Act

The Federal REAL ID Act requires airline travelers to carry a REAL ID compliant form of identification (ID card or driver's license or a passport). U.S. Department of Homeland Security has extended the REAL ID Deadline to May 7, 2025. Current Illinois driver's licenses or ID cards will continue to be accepted at airports until May 7, 2025. Anyone concerned about traveling with an Illinois ID alone should carry their passport as well. Visit the U.S. Department of State’s for information on passport applications.
